Review by jumpy1 for Kaplan Financial Education Life, Accident, and Health Insurance National License Exam Manual Rating: I had to give this 3 stars because a person can pass the test if they use it, since you only need to get 70%. But it is poorly written with poor grammar in many places and has several glaring issues that would cause confusion, so it isn't efficient for quick study since there will be places you'll be going back, wondering what you've missed. Like, it has these quick summaries in each chapter to highlight the type of things you must know from the chapter, but in these summaries it sometimes adds vocabulary that were never mentioned in the chapter (will they be on the test?), or doesn't discuss the same issues that were mentioned in the chapter -- for example, for the spendthrift clause the chapter only talks about whether a beneficiary is a spendthrift and how you can arrange for benefits to be paid in that case. But in the quick summary it only talks about whether the insured is a spendthrift -- never mentioned in the chapter -- so you are left wondering what else they didn't tell you? This confirms my experience taking a practice SAT at Kaplan, where I found several of the questions were very poorly worded in a way that no one at the College Board would have done. If I were the head of an insurance company and my agents were using this, I'd be concerned. After all, it's priced the same as other textbooks but it hasn't been given what one would expect to be a reasonable amount of editorial supervision.

Review by Kryptonite for Health: The Basics (8th Edition) Rating: Got my copy for a great price thanks to a seller on Amazon, but this book is useless. All topics are covered widely on the internet and the book in no way makes it interesting or "highly" informational.

Seemed like one large pamphlet on stuff you could find in any health sections but extremely boring.

I barely used it for my class. Worthless book IMO.

The self-help quizzes were often nonsensical, the information was either common sense or obsolete, and some information had been proven incorrect several years before the date of publication. The quizzes that the instructor gave us had incorrect "correct" answers. By that I mean the quizzes that came with the teaching edition of the book. The professor, in fact, notified us of this at the beginning of the class. I feel sorry for the men who took this class, since the book seemed to be geared more towards females. The only thing this book does, if taken seriously, is cause the reader to become hypochondriac.

Review by Puzzled Grace for Health: The Basics (8th Edition) Rating: The reason that I purchased the book was because of the health class I was taking at college. As I read through the chapters, they really interest me, and remind me of little things that I have always tend to forget. There are no big theories in the book, just simple "life little reminders". When I purchased this book, it also comes with a workbook, which contains review and practice tests to help you to reinforce the ideas. The book helps me to correct some of my daily bad habbits. And even the class is over now, I still read the book sometime to learn more. I think this is a great book for readers who would like to live a healthy life and to take control of themselves, just like me.

Review by for Health: The Basics (8th Edition) Rating: This book is dull and boring....in fact, I would never have purchased it if it wasn't required for my college class. Everything in here is common sense or if you watch the news, you all ready know everything presented. I started reading the first chapter and it completely put me to sleep, now when preping for a test, I mearly browse through the book and read the required definitions that will be on the test.

What's it about? Well, the title gives you a pretty good idea. A married woman steps
out on her Hubby...and Hubby does his best to, ah, deal with it.

Won't insult your intelligence, like some films in this genre. Suspenseful.

Review by Donny for The Unfaithful Wife (La Femme infidèle) Rating: The Unfaithful Wife is another film dealing with murder by the French New Wave's most mainstream talent, Claude Chabrol. What makes Chabrol different than his many contemporaries who also worked in the thriller genre is his approach towards his actor's emotions. Chabrol stays far away from exposing his characters inner thoughts, and allows more subtle actions and gestures to tell the story. The Unfaithful Wife is a prime example of how to deal with murder in the most minimalistic fashion. Chabrol isn't concerned wth visual exuberance, or artistic integrity like some of his New Wave counterparts, instead he's concerned with building characters that are meaningful to the viewer in different ways based on interpretations. Done in his most prolific period, The Unfaithful Wife is one of Chabrol's most emotionally detached, and deadpan films that works because the characters are not easy to define. The film also has a memorable ending that puts an original spin on an old plot.

This kind of fidelity is a chilling exercise of power - the film's many point-of-view shots are mostly his - with adultery a rebellion, a bid for freedom that must be crushed. It's not enough that Charles uncovers his wife's lover, he must sit on the bed they make love on, drink the same drink...Chabrol's most perfect film, where character inertia is expressed in blatant artifice, both in the home and in 'nature'; where a materialist filming of materialists conceals an austere spirituality, embodied in those Fateful policemen. Like his namesake Bovary, Charles sleeps when his exquisitely beautiful wife offers herself to him. He deserves what he gets.
